Training Buddies wanted Long Hill runs on the weekend

Hello all, hope the running’s going well, just back from a great weekend on the west coast and having been back up on the Skye ridge, I am feeling full of enthusiasm for some long hill runs-I have just printed off my entry form for the Ochills 2000’s and I am looking for some training buddies over the next few months-in fact is anyone up for a wee recce in the Ochills this sunday morning?

Not the whole thing, but maybe a good chuck of it? The mother-in-law is staying with us so it would be an early start! let me know

A disastrous start to my hill running career today! I need serious help with my navigation, I used to be able to get by, now I just lead poor carnegie hill runners up the wrong hills! Sorry Steven! We had a good longish run in the Ochils though. We might not have followed the correct route but never mind!

Seriously though, does anyone fancy a navigation session on one of the thursdays-to include the use of the Garmin forerunners as its a bit technical for stupid old me. If you fancy it, say aye and if there’s a volunteer or two to run a couple of sessions I’m sure a few folk would benefit?…..otherwise thats the start and end of my off road races!

cheers trace x
ps sorry again about today Steven

Hi Tracy,
I am keen to do some recce’s for the Ochills 2000’s so do let me know when you are next going out.

As for combining some navigation with the Thursday night runs, it is something that has been talked about for a while and I think Phil offered his services, so watch this space and we should be able to get something sorted out.

But in the mean time a book worth looking at is “GPS for walkers - an introduction to GPS and digital maps” by Clive Thomas (a pathfinder guide) available from all good outdoor shops (or I can lend you my copy). But my top tip would be “don’t forget a map and compass, even if you have a GPS”.

Oops! The Ochils are well known for their ability to loose people due to the rolling nature of the ground.

As not doing the LA this weekend, was planning to have a reasonably long run this weekend so any takers for the Ochils - with map and compass cos’ I don’t do GPS as such, so Paul and I should be able to get ourselcves somewhere by several methods. Not sure if GPS is good at contour navigating in a mist?? which is not unknown in the Ochils. However, local knowledge is the thing for the Ochils 2000 event and Tiger and Dougie have done several recce runs already.
See youse all tomorrow night - ahh - this evening.

A good map is a useful start either the 1:25k OS Explorer No. 366 with a streetmap download fore the wee bit at the east end that is on 367 or the Harveys Superwalker Map of the whole of the range at 1:25k
