A whole bunch of Hillbillies turned out to run the Falkland Hill race. It is a short sharp up and down race and the conditions were dry and hot. Results below the photos.
On Sunday afternoon the Falkland Hill Race took place with seven harriers taking part. Sandy Bennet was in fine form placing 2nd overall in 23.04. Bill Duff covered the 1200ft ascent and descent in 29.23 (24th), Stephen Greer was 25th in 29.33 and Chris Davidson was 26th in 29.40. Tom Bowie made his return to competitive action placing 35th in 31.02 and Melanie Sinclair completed her 2nd event of the day in 37.50 (47th). Pamela Gilfillan took part in her first hill race finishing 48th in 39.56.

Sunday 27th June:
The challenging 28 mile Lairig Ghru Race from Braemar to Aviemore took place on Sunday. The weather ranged from hot, humid conditions at start and finish to rain, just about sub-zero and snowfields to cross at the tops. Steven King was the leading Carnegie runner placing 31st in 4.24.25. Andy Sim ran his fastest ever Lairig Ghru race reaching to finish at Aviemore Police Station in 4.41.40 (48th). Well done to Phil Smithard who won the M60 award in 4.45.07. Helena Sim and Lynne Kuz completed the distance in 5.47.48.

Neil Campbell was the sole hillbilly to make it through for the Arrochar Alps hill race.
He improved his PB by one hour on this tough race.

Six Hillbillies made the trip over to Arran for the Glen Rosa Horseshoe Hill Race. They were rewarded with great weather and spectacular views.

Three Hillbillies, Judith Turner, Neil Campbell & Alison West made it up to Strathyre on Wednesday night for the Ben Sheann hill race. It is part of the SHR Bog and Burn series. Results can be found below.
They ran a new course this year due to forestry work. It is a very steep course both up and down. The course was well marked and marshalled.

Three Hillbillies made the trip to Durisdeer. In order of finishing it was Neil Campbell , Alison West and Fabienne Thompson. Alison also won the F50 prize, which is the third 1st place F50 in three races this week!! Fabienne was placed 2nd F40 also taking home a bottle of wine.

Three Hillbillies ventured North to the most North Westerly Marathon on the UK Mainland. It is also the only marathon I know with a ferry crossing at 22 miles!!

Prasad clocked a new modern era record at Ben Lomond with 1:05:51 to win the race by more than 2 minutes from Robbie Simpson. First lady was Catriona Buchanan in 1:21:24.

The 4th event in Carnegie’s Hill Running Grand Prix took place on Saturday afternoon at the 7.5 mile Ben Lomond Hill Race. Ten Harriers tackled this tough race which incorporated the SAL Hill Running Championship and has a climb of 3192 feet. Congratulations to Pete Simpson who won the silver medal in the M50 category. Pete placed 24th overall in 1.19.16. Steven King was 55th in 1.29.07 and Alan Manson on his return from an achilles injury placed 82nd in 1.32.14. Kenny MacDonald ran a strong race finishing 109th in 1.38.48, Andy Sim was 132nd in 1.44.55 and Carnegie’s new hill running captain Allan Macaulay was 135th in 1.45.22. Alison West placed highly in the F50 age group and 142nd overall in 1.47.34, Neil Campbell ran a Ben Lomond personal best of 1.49.44 (146th), Lynne Bennet was 150th in 1.50.02 and Chris Davidson was 153rd in 1.50.56.

Harriers in action at the 53 mile Highland Fling
Several members of Carnegie Harriers took part in Saturday’s Highland Fling Race which covers an incredibly challenging 53 miles along the West Highland Way from Milngavie to Tyndrum. Peter Humphreys was the leading Carnegie athlete placing an excellent 22nd overall in 9.38.58. David Greig was the next Harrier home clocking 10.26.15 (65th) followed by Andy Sim who timed at 10.38.44. Carnegie’s men finished 4th team overall. Gail Murdoch reached the finish in Tyndrum in 10.50.58 (92nd), Fabienne Thompson was 122nd in 11.21.01 and Helena Sim finished 134th in 11.28.44. Carnegie’s ladies finished 3rd ladies team overall. Neil Campbell finished 224th in 13.29.35. Carnegie Harriers were represented by three teams in the Highland Fling Relay Race with our Carnegie Cougars (Jo Wilson, Isobel Burnett, Lesley Landels and Morna Fleming) finishing 3rd ladies team in 9.15.17. The Carnegie Wrinklies (John McArthur, Ken Daniels, Bill Duff and John Milton) were 23rd overall in 9.39.92 and Carnegie Ladies in 4 fun (Gillian McCracken, Louise Hewison, Fiona Rennie and Val Macaulay) were 7th ladies team in 10.19.01.
