Seven Hillbillies made the trek down to Dumfries and Galloway for the Durisdeer Hill race. Tommy L , Steve K, Kenny M, Andy S, Alison W, Neil C and Sandy B.
Gregor was shouting, “What took you so long!”
We were rewarded by great weather and a well organised race, new course records with a great feed at the end. Perhaps a theme emerging here. Thanks to Adam Anderson of Carnethy the race organiser for a great race and loads of cakes.
Race Profile (click for larger image)
The registration and cake eating were both in an old church and the latter sitting amongst the headstones of the graveyard. Quite symbolic.
There was a record race entry of 300. Normally it is a much smaller field.

If you are interested in running any recce’s or social runs during this time can you please let me know. Also if you have any suggestions for any routes or you would like to lead a run please let me know and I will get things organised for you.
Many thanks

As I am not aware of any interest in the proposed long run on 16/03/08 this run is now cancelled, however Ian Johnson has organised a long run for lunchtime from Dunfermline if anyone is interested.
yours,
Paul

The Cioch Mountaineering Club is holding a very special lecture in the Pitbauchlie House Hotel in Dunfermline at 8pm on Thursday 21 February 2008. It is by Dave Macleod, not only the best rock climber in Scotland today, but also one of the world’s most accomplished climbers. You may remember there was a programme on BBC in the latter part of 2007 about him and his climb up Hell’s Lum Crag in the Cairngorms. Tickets are priced at only £4 and are available from Summits in Dunfermline and on the door on the night subject to availability. It promises to be a great evening.

Spotted in Kinloch Rannoch by our Roving ReporterThe Kinloch Rannoch Games took place on Saturday under miserable conditions, with constant driving rain making going soft underfoot. Not to be put down, the competitors lined up for the short hill race up a local brae.
Looking more closely a Carnegie vest was spotted in the line up. This reporter didn’t hang around to see the end of the race, as getting wetter on the inside than the already drenched outside proved more important on the day.

Recce runs for the Devil’s Burden are now in full swing and many club members have made it along to our regular Saturday morning excursions. Most agree it is a rewarding alternative to pounding tarmac and a damned good workout as well!
The Carnegie Hillbillies are therefore planning to continue these informal sessions and venture further afield to show club members some of the more popular hill race routes. Suggestions so far include: Carnethy 5, Maddy Moss, Norman’s Law, Dollar, building up to longer routes like Stuc a Chroin, Pentland Skyline and of course route recce’s for team events later in the year like Cateran Trail and Comrie Hills Relay races.
We may even include some training sessions to help promote strength and fitness for running hills and provide some tuition on navigation and hillcraft.
What do you think? Post your feedback and suggestions.
