Devils Burden Recce Runs

Sunday 4th January - Leg 4:- Meet at 10am at Strathmiglo Village Hall for an out and back run of Leg 4 ( Route Map Leg 4 ) This run will be led by Paul Hutton

Sunday 11th January – Leg 3:- Meet at Strathmiglo Village Hall at 10am. From here we will car share to Scotlandwell with the recce run starting at 10.30am. The route back will take about 2 hours. We will then car share back to Scotlandwell. ( Route Map Leg 3 ) This run will be led by Paul Hutton

The incredibly popular Devil’s Burden Hill Relay will take place from Falkland, Fife at 10am on Saturday 24th January. The event is run over four stages (6 people in a team) with Stage 1 and Stage 3 run in pairs. In 2008 our club fielded several teams and in 2009 we intend entering even more team and further recce runs over the different stages will be organised shortly. If you would like to take part then please let Paul Hutton know or write your name on the list on the club notice board.

The Devils Burden is a hilly relay race over 31 km consisting of 4 legs for teams of 6 (2 legs run in pairs). Registration will take place at Falkland village hall from 8.30am onwards. The race will start from the Village Hall, opposite the main car park in Falkland at 10.00 am. There are limited changing facilities and toilets at the village hall and none at the stage changeovers. After the finish soup, tea, biscuits and drinks will be available from Falkland Village Hall from 12.30 pm to 4.00 pm.

The race is run over the Lomond Hills in mid-winter and will require

full body cover (waterproofs, hat & gloves) to be carried or worn at all times. A map of each leg (1:50,000 OS sheet No 58 and 59) and compass and whistle must also be carried. There will be compulsory kit checks at each stage changeover and any team failing to comply will be disqualified. The race consists of 3 hill legs and one trail leg, leg 4. You will need some experienced hill runners who must be capable of navigation (especially leg 3) in the hills in adverse weather. Leg 4 is a run through a forest on good forest trails and does not require any hill running experience.
